First Teen Clothes Closet is accepting monetary donations to purchase new shoes for teens in conjunction with the annual shoe distribution hosted August 30 by the Children’s Clothes Closet/Trinity Lutheran Church in La Crosse. We hope to provide at least 120 pair of shoes for middle school and high school students to get the new school year started on the right foot. Monetary donations may be dropped off in the church office or in the offering — please indicate it is for the First Teen Clothes Closet shoe drive.
Along with donating shoes, we hope to bring along 12-14 volunteers. Six volunteers will get shoes from the holding area and have the person try them on, making sure they have the correct size. You will work with kids of all ages. We need another 4-6 high schoolers and/or adults to help with games to provide a fun outlet for those who attend. Sign up at 1stlu.org/shoes or contact the church office. Thank you!
In case you hadn’t heard... Tina Nelson, First Lutheran’s extraordinary Youth Director, has accepted a call to serve as Program Director at Sugar Creek Bible Camp. The whole process began while Tina was discerning her vocation. Outdoor ministries is where her passion and aptitude meet the needs of Christ’s church. Although we are sincerely happy for her and excited for an even closer connection to our camp, our youth and their families will miss her faithful leadership. Tina will remain with us through the mission trip season, though. We will say farewell and Godspeed at worship on July 16. Save the date!
Your synod Global Mission Committee has a wonderful opportunity for young people aged 17-25. Our soon to be companion synod, the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren (ECCB), has invited us to send participants to their 11th International Camp. The dates are July 15-23, 2017. It will be held at a beautiful retreat center in Herlikovice, Czech Republic. The theme this year is "Putting on the Whole Armor of God." Participants can look forward to cultural sharing, learning others' languages, sport, and Bible study. English is the primary language for this camp. If you are interested read a complete camp description HERE.
