Foundation Update for February 2024

Our committee, which is only possible through a generous bequest by Mabel Anderson years ago as well as your continued donations and support, has had another astounding year supporting our community and ELCA organizations, as well as area youth with Mabel Anderson Scholarships.

This past year, we awarded the following community groups grant money which they applied for on our First Lutheran Church website. The groups awarded are Oasis (sensors for Alzheimer’s patients), La Crosse Confluence (band equipment), Holmen Community Center (programs and rent) and the Coulee Region Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (handcraft program).

ELCA Ministries were also awarded grant money, again, by applying through our application on the First Lutheran Church website. The ELCA groups awarded this year include Our Savior’s Women’s Clothes Closet (professional clothing), First Lutheran Preschool (field trip costs), First Lutheran Quilters (quilting supplies), First Lutheran Prayer Shawl Knitters (yarn), First Lutheran Church Youth (Parents Night Out/youth programs) and First Helping Hands (fuel needs).

Celebrating our scholarship receipients in 2023

Last spring we awarded 12 local high school students scholarships: Annabel Reitzel, Samuel Pica, Ava Kloehn, Macy Meyer, Kyla Christnovich, A lli Thomas, Jack Tracey, Sophia Stanton, Christopher McGaff, Cameron Deml, Bryce Buchanan and Nathan Olson. Students, please remember to submit your grades to the church office as you finish your first term in order to receive your scholarship award. Please do so by Feb. 1 at the latest.

Donations/memorials to the Foundation are always accepted in the office. Please label your donation Foundation Fund so that we may continue to serve our community, ELCA ministries and the Mabel Anderson Scholarship program

Grant applications are open from Jan. 1 to Jun. 1 every year.

The deadline for the Mabel Anderson Scholarship is Apr. 1, 2024.
