Coulee Region Hunger Walk

Did you know that in the U.S., one of the world’s wealthiest countries, more than 11% struggle to get enough food to eat each day. 25.2% of people in La Crosse County live in poverty. 19 schools in the greater La Crosse area operate some kind of food pantry for their students.

First Lutheran is teaming with other area churches and secular organizations to start a fundraising walk for hunger, The Coulee Region Hunger Walk. The Coulee Region Hunger Walk, Oct. 13, is a nonprofit dedicated to raise funds, raise awareness and end hunger among our neighbors.

Coulee Region Hunger Walk/Run is a 5K being held Oct. 13, starting at Myrick Park. This is meant to be a fun time for all with music, raffle and snacks available. We hope that First Lutheran will have at least 60 walkers. This is a fundraiser, with 35% going to The Hunger Task Force, 35% to WAFER Food Pantry and 30% to whatever nonprofit food organization you as the walker choose. That could be Lutheran World Hunger, Onalaska Food Pantry, a school district, etc. You can get pledges from family and friends, or make a donation yourself.

Registration begins at noon, runners start at 1pm, and walkers start immediately after the runners have left the starting line. Pledge forms/registration forms are available at First, or at couleeregionhungerwalk.org or on Facebook.
