Privilege - What is it and Why does it Matter?

  • English Lutheran Church 1509 King Street La Crosse, WI USA (map)

As disciples of Jesus Christ in the La Crosse Area Synod we are challenged to "Walk the Word," to think and pray about God's call to provide for our sisters and brothers in need, to work for justice and peace for all peoples and to follow Christ as a public church that is involved in the world.

Join community activist and educator Sam Scinta for an interactive conversation about privilege, its historic al basis and its presence in society today. Through these informative sessions, consciousness and awareness of the topic will be developed in a supportive and constructive environment. We will examine privilege in the context of race, as well as socio-economic differences and other factors.

The synod's Church in Society Committee is offering workshops around the synod to explore the realities and ramifications of privilege. We hope that this will also serve as a means to practice engaging in meaningful conversations which deal with sensitive issues.

Please call 608-788-5000 or email the synod at office@lacrosseareasynod.org to let us know that you plan to attend. Space is limited to 20 people at each session.

This event is at English Lutheran in La Crosse.
