Hurricane Melissa

The needs of our neighbors in the Caribbean are growing as Hurricane Melissa brings devastation to communities already living in fragile conditions. Our partners at Lutheran World Relief are already preparing a response to reach families affected by Hurricane Melissa with urgently needed care like food, water, shelter, and essential supplies. Right now, the number one need is financial gifts so that the team at Lutheran World Relief can reach our neighbors as quickly as possible. Give directly through Lutheran World Relief at lwr.org/melissa-relief or on our church’s giving page at 1stlu.org/give. Thank you for sharing God’s love with our neighbors when and where they need it most.

Faith Webs

Those looking to connect with and support youth in their summer ministries can still do so! Learn more about Faith Webs at 1stlu.org/webs and by stopping at the Faith Webs table in the narthex. Thank you for entering into the shared goal of raising and supporting our kids! Together we are building community!

Monday Night Community Meals

For many years, Trinity Lutheran Church on the north side of La Crosse has hosted a meal on Monday nights. First Lutheran helps with this important community ministry, by preparing a meal, serving the food, and cleaning up. We need people to plan and prepare the meal to feed 150-200 people, and folks to serve the meal (5-6pm) and help with cleanup. Meal prep can be done at your convenience. Many times people prepare the main course a week ahead, freeze it and reheat it. Food for the meal can be gotten at no charge from the Hunger Task Force in La Crosse. NEXT TWO DATES: Dec. 1 AND Dec. 8 (new date for Dec. 8 just added!) Sign up at 1stlu.org/next.

Sunshine Team

The Sunshine Team meets on the first Thursday of every month. NEXT: Dec. 4, 9:30am. Various jobs: cleaning, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, washing windows, and cleaning carpets. Help make First look nice! Refreshments are supplied to replenish your reserves! Dues are free! Questions? Contact Dan at dan@firstlu.org.

Baptismal Preparation

The next baptism preparation session will be Saturday, Dec. 6, at 10am in the narthex for anyone who is considering or has scheduled a baptism. To register or ask questions call the church office at 608.783.2236 by Sunday, Nov. 30. Min. attendance required: 2 families.

OWLs

The OWLs (our Older Wiser Lutherans at First, for anyone 55+) will kick off the Christmas season with an outing to a Viterbo Christmas. Start the Christmas season out with a family-friendly celebration featuring music, joy, and heart-warming traditions that capture the spirit of the season. The concert strikes a beautiful balance between festive cheer and moments of quiet reverence, perfect for centering yourself during the holiday rush. It has elegant staging, lighting, and heartfelt performances; it’s a feast for the senses and the soul. This joyous event takes place on Saturday, Dec. 6. We will meet at the church at 4:30pm for a nice dinner out. Cost of the concert is $33, and dinner is on your own. This concert will sell out. Please sign up by calling or emailing Brian Narveson (owls@firstlu.org or 630-816-5917). You can pay for the tickets the night of the event. Please sign up as soon as you can commit to the date. We anticipate all tickets will be taken before Thanksgiving.

The OWLs Christmas party and potluck is an always exciting, highly regarded “social event of the season” and will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 17. at noon in the Fellowship Hall. There will be fantastic food, a gift exchange, singing, and fun games. Our gift exchange theme is “stars.” It can be an ornament, a coat pin, or anything star-related. If you have trouble finding a star, check out the Dollar Store in Holmen and Hobby Lobby. If you bring a gift, you will get a gift. Maximum value is $10. It’s OK if you don’t want to participate and just want to watch the fun. Wear your favorite Christmas sweater. The annual “Who is most ready for Christmas” contest will be held with an interesting prize. No need to sign up; just come if you can, bring a dish to pass, a few Christmas goodies to share, and your holiday spirit. Great fun will be had by all. Bring a friend. All are welcome.

All Church Lunch & Christmas Decorating!
